First 5 Monterey County seeks to work collaboratively with the entire community to increase culturally responsive, accessible and sustainable quality early learning opportunities that are based upon research and best practices.  Some examples of the initial goals the Commission might seek to achieve include:

·   To educate policy makers, the public, parents and caregivers on the need for and  long-term benefits of early learning opportunities for all children

·   To provide recommendations for policy and systems improvements

·   To support family, friend & neighbor, center-based and cooperative environments

·   To support continuum of care for children whose parents work long/odd hours

·   To support parents/caregivers

·   To provide family/provider literacy

·   To provide play groups, childcare, and specialized support
