Monterey County Special Needs Task Force
The Task Force worked with a consultant to develop a “Victory Vision” that addresses service gaps and needs in the County. To support identification of gaps in the system, the Task Force developed a flow chart of county services that visualizes the various entry points for access to services (including Specific School Readiness services), and identifies where feedback loops are needed.
Task Force members also participated in developing the successful First 5 Monterey County proposal to First 5 California to participate in the Special Needs Demonstration Project (SNP). Task Force members participate in SNP committees on screening and assessment, outreach, and inclusion (development of the mental health consultation to preschools and family child care projects). Additionally, some Task Force members participate on the SNP Leadership Team and attend Regional Network Meetings to learn about best practices and share cross-county information related to special needs. The SNP-related activities support the Task Force’s county-wide focus on sharing cross-agency information, identifying gaps and needs, and developing continuity of services.
The multiple strategies of Task Force participation, including large-group meetings, small group committee work, and focused meetings at local agencies, are bridging relationships between partners and supporting continuity of services for children and families with special needs in Monterey County.
