Early Childhood in the Community

Early childhood continues to be recognized in our community. Recently, both CHISPA and Bright Futures honored work around work supporting families with young children. Representative Jimmy Panetta also responded to community needs and took action to co-sponsor the Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act in support of families living on the Central Coast.

CHISPA honored the Alisal Union School District as the 2018 Community Partner of the Year. For the last ten years, Alisal, in partnership with First 5 Monterey County, provides a playgroup program in CHISPA's apartment buildings for families with children ages 0 to 5. The program helps families connect to other community resources. Bright Futures also recognized work happening around early childhood during their Bright Spots event. Included during the early childhood presentation were: the Bright Beginnings Early Childhood Strategic Framework, Quality Matters, Gonzales Kids in All Policies, and MAOF's new Monterey County Child Care website. We extend our congratulations to these organizations working in partnership around early childhood development!

Finally, we had the opportunity to sit down with Rep. Jimmy Panetta to share the innovative and collective work happening to help families with young children reach their unique potential in Monterey County. We are grateful for his support in co-sponsoring the Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act that would provide workers with up to 12 weeks of partial income while taking family leave--that would include time to bond with a new baby! Rep. Panetta noted on his Facebook page, "No American worker should have to choose between sacrificing a paycheck and caring for their family."
