For over a decade, we have invested in a Sponsorship program to ensure that the broad community has a way to include young children in local events. This work has supported both small and large events and has helped groups find age-appropriate ways for young children to enjoy events and connect families to local resources.
The First 5 Commission recently changed the approach to our Sponsorship Program to ensure that we can reach families in a meaningful way. First 5 Monterey County values building relationships with families and young children. We want to encourage and support ways to connect families to local early childhood resources. Now, when you request either the Wheelie Mobilee or books (or both), we will provide a First 5 Early Childhood Outreach Table that is staffed with an assistant who can help link parents to local services and provide a free Kit for New Parents. However, we will no longer be providing funding for general community events.
Those with approved general community event applications that received approval prior to July 1, 2019 for an event happening between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020 timeframe are not affected by this change.
